About the artist

Yas Kanaan is a Montreal-based artist, curator, and art historian who explores displacement, belonging, and cultural memory through interdisciplinary visual storytelling. She is committed to telling the untold stories of those whose voices have been — and continue to be — exoticized rather than truly heard and humanized.

She works through visual form and materiality to communicate shared human experiences that reach beyond colonial borders. Her art tells not only her own story, but also the stories of those who came before her and shaped her own identity. For Kanaan, "home" is not a fixed place but an inner one that moves with her — bringing together diasporic identity and folklore to preserve cultural histories and strengthen collective memory.
